Echinodorus uruguayensis is native to South America and can be found in cool, acidic waters with a rapid current. Echinodorus uruguayensis has long, dark to lime-green leaves, making it a very beautiful centerpiece for large aquariums.

Echinodorus uruguayensis requires a nutrient rich substrate as well as moderate to high intensity lighting of at least 2 to 3 watts per gallon from full spectrum (5000-7000K) bulbs. Cool, slightly acidic water, nutrient rich substrate, and CO2 injection will promote robust, vigorous growth (a new leaf, weekly, is not uncommon).

In contrast to other large Echinodorus species, Echinodorus uruguayensis will not form floating leaves. This species is known to form an unusual amount of leaves under optimal conditions.
