Bristlenose Plecos are one of the most popular and beginner-friendly catfish available. Known for their peaceful, easygoing nature and compatibility with most community fish, they thrive in a wide range of tank setups. They're an excellent addition to both planted aquariums and tropical community tanks.

One of their best features? They’re natural algae eaters. Golden Black Eyed Bristlenose Plecos are fantastic at keeping your tank’s glass, décor, and driftwood free of algae buildup. This helps maintain a clean, healthy-looking aquarium while reducing the need for frequent scrubbing or chemical treatments.

They stay a compact size of around 10–12 cm (4–5 inches) when fully grown, making them perfect for medium-sized tanks (minimum 80L recommended). They enjoy hiding spots, caves, and driftwood, which also helps with digestion and mimics their natural environment.

These plecos are nocturnal but are often active during the day, especially at feeding time. They’re not fussy eaters and will thrive on a varied diet of algae wafers, blanched vegetables (like zucchini and cucumber), and occasional protein-based foods such as shrimp pellets or bloodworms.

Males typically develop the characteristic bristles on their nose as they mature, while females tend to have a smoother profile. This makes sexing easier if you’re planning to breed them. Bristlenose Plecos are also one of the easier plecos to breed in captivity, especially with the right environment and clean water.
