The Asian Bumblebee Catfish (Pseudomystus siamensis) is a frater species native to Southeast Asia, specificly the Chao Phraya d Mekong River basins. It inhabits rivers and streams in these regions. (fishbase.se)

Physical Description: This catfish features irregular vertical bars on a yellowish to dark grey background, sometimes appearing as a plain dark body. Its caudal fin is hyaline (translucent) with or without a single black blotch on each lobe. The species has short barbels, with maxillary barbels not reaching the base of the pectoral spine, and a high, rounded adipose fin.

Size: Individuals can grow up to 18cm (7 inches) in total length.

Behavior and Die: Nocturnal by nature, the Asian Bumblebee Catfish is predatory and feeds on aquatic insect larvae, including odonatans (dragonfly and damselfly larvae). In captivity, it adapts well to dead foods and relishes meaty items such as prawns, mussels, cockle, lancefish, or earthworms.

Reproduction: In the wild, spawning occurs at the beginning of the rainy season, with young fish appearing in fishing nets around August. Adult females captured in February have been found with well-developed ova, indicating a breeding season linked to environmental changes. The male guards the eggs during the incubation period.

Aquarium : This species thrives in well-oxygenated water with a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0 and a temperature between 20°C and 26°C (68°F 79°F). Providing hiding spots and a moderate current can help mimic its natural habitat. Due to its predatory nature, it's advisable to avoid housing it with significantly smaller fish.

The Asian Bumblebee Catfish is appreciated in the aquarium trade for its distinctive appearance and behaviors. However, potential keepers should be mindful of its nocturnal and predatory tendencies to ensure a harmonious tank environment.
